Event Description
Battles at Maker Faire returns for a fourth year!We have been invited back again for Orlando Maker Faire 2016, and they want us bigger and better! In addition to the insect event we have run in the past, we are going to be running 15, 30, 30SC, and 220 pound robots!
Insect battles will be run in the 8'x8' Florida arena, which has a non-ferrous floor with a pit in one corner. Bigger bots will be run in the 16'x24' Southeast Combot arena which has a steel floor. Everything up to 30lb will be full contact, and the 120 and 220lb will be "sportsman" style weapons. Sawblades: Yes; High-energy spiiners: No. Flames will not be allowed.
Entry fees are:
150g: Free!
All other classes: $5 each
Event will be run in conjunction with Maker Faire Orlando being held at the Central Florida Fairgrounds located at 4603 West Colonial Drive, Florida 32808. Competing teams will get passes to the event, and we will be spacing out the fights such that competitors can wander around and see the rest of the going-ons at Maker Faire.
Competition will be held in an outdoor pavilion on the fairgrounds, so take that into consideration when packing for the event. It will be October, but as it's Florida, one cannot tell what weather will be like. In the past, food trucks have been available on-site, but with a sizable line to get food.
