Event Description
Hosted by Oregon State Combat Robotics and open to the public, Winter Wars '23 is Oregon State University's first robot combat competition of the '22-'23 academic year! OSCR members learn the basics of combat robotics through a basic curriculum and hands-on design and developing their own Plastic Antweight robots. Now is the time to test ourselves against others in the Combat Robotics community!
Winter Wars '23 will take place on Saturday, January 14th (the Saturday of week 1 for OSU students) in Oregon State University's Kelley Engineering Center atrium with doors opening at 10:00 am for setup and testing and battles starting at 12:00 noon. Easy building access and parking is available off SW Park Terrace Pl and NW Monroe Ave.
The OSCR Combat Arena is 4 feet x 4 feet wide and 4 feet tall inside the arena, with a total height of about 7 feet. The floor is steel with steel kickplates. In one corner is a 1 foot square pit that opens in the last minute of each three minute match. The arena is capable of safely containing 1-pound, full-metal Antweight combat robots. While OSCR does not specifically build in this category, we will still host Full-Metal Antweight and Fairyweight classes for outside competitors.
This tournament, in all weight classes, will be double-elimination style with first bracket match winners moving on and losers moving into the second bracket. Losing in the second bracket will knock a bot out of the competition. The winner of the first bracket and the winner of the second bracket will meet in the finals.
OSCR complies with the SPARC ruleset, which can be found here: https://clubs.oregonstate.edu/combat-robotics/sparc
