Event Description
Builders!
Finally we are back for the robot attack! We are hosting a very special 8th Annual SmashBotz competition this year in historic Downtown Los Angeles as originally planned last year. We welcome competitors of all ages and expertise. Those interested in competing please refer to http://sparc.tools for Judging, Guidelines, Procedures and Robot construction rules.
There will be a small indoor pit area with power and work space. We are adding the option to pit outside if you feel more comfortable to do so. Feel free to bring EZ-Ups, tables, extension cords, power strips, etc...you know the drill. There will be 3 battle boxes to accommodate all the weight-classes comfortably. There will also be food and refreshments onsite as well as live entertainment. Cash prize for all first place winners! We will be hosting a small builder after party when the event is over. This event will go on rain or shine. So come and be a part of SoCals growing bot-building communityand let's show these Angelinos what robot combat is all about!
There is a $10 Registration Fee per robot PayPal payable to: poppinbeans@gmail.com or Cash the day of the event. There is no "Team Registration Fee" as this system is set up to be. Our apologies for any confusion.
Due to the overwheling amount of competitors we will be starting PIT AREA: There will be a large outdoor area roped off for fixing, tweaking, and charging your bots. However, we have a really limited number of chairs, tables, and extension cords. Plz bring yours! LOADING: Doors open at 9am; come early to get a good parking spot on the street. Any time before noon, you’ll be able to pull your car in to unload, but do it FAST — only one or two vehicles allowed in at a time. There are some big shop carts you can use at any time. PHOTOS: Our friends at Real Fake Rooms made an AWESOME mini stage for taking “hero shots” of your robot! Bring it in when it’s fresh, or present it proudly when it’s got its battle scars. Shoot some photos with your own camera, or one of our event photographers can get a super-professional glamour shot for you if you ask. Due to the overwheling amount of competitors we will be starting the fights at 10:30am!
ABOUT THE VENUE. Welcome to Lucky Cat Labs, LA’s finest community of artists and small businesses! Here’s what you will find when you come in on Saturday morning. PARKING: There’s plenty of free street parking all day long. DOOR: We’ll be checking IDs and vaccine status at the door, and giving you a wristband so you can come in and out as you please. ARENAS: ALL the action will be outdoors in the parking lot. BATHROOMS: Inside the building. Please be courteous and help keep them clean! FOOD AND DRINK: There will be sodas, water, and food available for purchase on site. Bring cash! Venmo also accepted. WORKSHOPS: This building is full of awesome people doing cool stuff in their private shops. Feel free to explore the halls and public areas, but please be respectful of the space and the folks in it. EVENING PARTY: Starting around sunset, some incredible DJs will be sharing their music with us. Beer and such things will be available for 21+ folks. Doors close at midnight.
We are still looking for a few volunteers if any one is interested in the following positions: * Judging * Bot Cue * Runners * Build/ Break Down * Announcer for Fairy /Plastic Arena
Covid-19 Restrictions: In accordance with Los Angeles Public safety guidelines, we are asking all attendants to show proof of vaccination upon entry OR a negative PCR test within 72 hours. Feel free if you choose to wear a mask. We want everyone to feel as safe as possible to make this event happen.
*If you have any questions or if you would like to bring robotic/electronic art to display at this amazing creative space please feel free to contact us at smashbotz@protonmail.com.
