Event Description
Knights Out Sumo Joust! This Sumo robot event is held at the Knights Out Pub and Eatery near UCF in Orlando Florida. Come compete with your mini sumo bot and push other bots out of the ring!
May 25th, 11-3pm at Knights Out Pub and Eatery at 3402 Technological Ave #202, Orlando, FL 32817 (map) Check-in begins at 11, with the matches starting at 12pm.
In Mini Sumo robot competition, teams compete with 500g or less robots on a ring (dohyo), in an effort to find and push their opponent out. The robots are autonomous, controlled by microcontroller and sensors.
The event will be the Mini Sumo size (10cmx10cm footprint, 500g weight limit, 77cm dohyo). Please see the full ruleset.
The Robogames Unified Rules here.
At check-in, robots will be evaluated to confirm size & weight limits are met. Additionally, each robot must be activated with a button and demonstrate the 5 sec wait before moving. Robots activated by other means (plugging batterys, links) or failing the 5 second timer check will not be able to compete.
If you are new to sumo robots and want to compete - there are a number of ways to make a bot, from scratch all the way up to full ready-to-build kits. jsumo.com and sumozade.com are excellent sources for components and kits. You may also find components and kits elsewhere, like robotshop.com, palmbeachbots.com, itgresa.com and Amazon.
The dohyo is a 1" thick MDF round disk at the prescribed 77cm diameter. The surface is spraypainted with steelwool sanding for a smooth finish. White border on the rings edge is 2.5cm wide. We have a low lip board under the dohyo to catch bots that run off the edge - but the teams are encourgaged to be ready in case their bot clears the lip.
Event is free to participate! Trophies and some additional KO gift cards to the winners.
Format of the tournament is yet to be determined, this will vary by the number of competitors. If possible we will run a round robin format with separate trophy/awards for both Open & College teams. Brackets will be set after check-ins are complete the day of the event.
This will be the first in a series of sumo robot events, approximately 3 each year.
