Our goal at Charlotte Combat Robot Club (CCRC) is to share our passion for robotics in the most fun and exciting way possible: action-packed and spark-flying combat! Members of CCRC will be learning about and designing remote-controlled robots to fight in-house and in third-party competitions such as Hickory Bot Battles at the Catawba Science Center. Fights take place in a durable cage built to withstand heavy abuse from our robots, and the fights end when one robot is knocked out or time expires. If a match goes to the judges, points are generally awarded based on damage done, aggression, and control.
Although robots with spinning weapons and sharp edges are dangerous, we are highly committed to the safety of all members of CCRC. We follow nationally accepted safety guidelines for robot combat (SPARC), and officers go through required safety training to ensure the only things being hurt are robots in the ring. Members will also be taught and reminded of safety rules throughout the design and building process. Another top priority of CCRC is inclusivity. Everyone is welcome regardless of major, experience, race, or sexual orientation. Our goal is to build a community in which everyone is accepted and feels welcome.
