Event Description
Join us for ASME at UCLA's first-ever beetleweight combat robotics tournament!
UPDATE: As of April 25, this event is now open to builders from the general public!
When: May 22nd, 2022 (8 AM - 8 PM)
Where: Ackerman Grand Ballroom (308 Westwood Plz., Los Angeles, CA, 90024)
Who: NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and Student Teams (collegiate, high-school)
Teams permitting, there will be a 16-team double elimination tournament for the public and a separate 16-team double elimination tournament for students; the winners of both brackets will face off in the championships!
Weight Class: 3 lb. Beetleweight
Cost: $30 per robot. Student teams should purchase "Student Team Robot Registration" tickets, and builders from the general public should purchase "Open Robot Registration" tickets on this Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/socal-smackdown-robot-registration-tickets-302459132407
Tentative Event Schedule:
- 8 AM - Venue Opens for Competitors
- 9 AM - Safety Inspections Begin
- 10 AM - Doors Open
- 10:30 AM - Matches Begin
- 1:00 PM - Lunch Break
- 2:00 PM - Matches Resume
- 7:00 PM - Final Matches
- 7:30 PM - Awards Ceremony
Competition Details:
- The event will be indoors, and is free for spectators. (Register for free spectator tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/socal-smackdown-free-spectator-admission-tickets-302476524427.)
- Registration is NO LONGER LIMITED to student teams; currently, only 8 robots from any school/program can register, and a max of 32 robots can register (will open more spots if space allows).
- Event will comply with UCLA Covid-19 protocols: https://covid-19.ucla.edu/ucla-covid-protocols/.
- The arena size is 8' x 8' x 4', with 1/4" polycarbonate side walls.
- Tentatively, the competition format is double elimination; all robots will be guaranteed two matches.
- Robots must adhere to the SPARC Robot Construction Specifications: http://sparc.tools/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2019/SPARC_Robot_Construction_Specifications_v1.3.pdf.
- We'll send out more details to teams and individuals who register at the beginning of May.
